Grumman Canoes

From 1929 until 1994 Grumman Aerospace Corporation produced aircrafts, both military and civilian. This same company, at the end of World War II, began using the aluminum from their old aircrafts to build canoes. The first Grumman Canoes were made in 1944. The idea to use the scrap metal from the airplanes to build Grumman Canoes came from Grumman Aerospace Corporation`s executive William Hoffman.

These first Grumman Canoes built were known for being lighter and stronger then the wooden canoes of the time. These canoes had the Grumman logo on them. Grumman Canoes were liked very much and the demand for them rose very quickly. Shortly after coming out with the Grumman Canoes, in 1952, Grumman began making their boats in Marathon, New York.

Grumman Canoes continue to this day to be in high demand. An Aluminum Grumman Canoe is still considered to be top of the line. Every Aluminum Grumman Canoe has deck caps that are .060 aluminum and stemcaps that are .080 aluminum. They are fastened with T-6 rivets which are specially made for optimal strength.

Every Aluminum Grumman Canoe is sealed with a special sealant which makes the canoe water tight. They generally have a flat water keel which makes paddling easier. The Aluminum Grumman Canoe is built sturdy and designed to last. Whether you are going for a joy ride or through rocky whitewater rivers, the Aluminum Grumman Canoe will get you where you want to go.
